Kadarius Toney did not show up in the New York Giants scoring area in Thursday night’s loss to the Washington football team. While the three wide receivers drafted ahead of Toney each made an impact in Game 1 of their rookie season, Toney is yet to record positive yards in his two career games.
By NJ.com’s Zack Rosenblatt, Toney walked off the pitch in the third quarter Thursday night and had a roughly 10-second conversation with head coach Joe Judge before leaving immediately. Toney did not return to the game after that, having moved away from his teammates as New York made numerous mistakes in the fourth quarter of a 30-29 loss.
Whatever the judge said to Toney, the Giants first-round pick doesn’t seem happy with his role – posting an Instagram story expressing his frustration with the situation after the game.
Toney only played 19 snaps in Washington and was not targeted. He had two targets in a Week 1 loss to the Denver Broncos, but both games ended in negative distances late in the round. Toney is buried on the depth card, as the Giants couldn’t find a way to use him. It didn’t help that Toney contracted COVID-19 early in training camp and didn’t participate in any preseason games due to a hamstring injury.
“I would say in terms of importance, I see this not so much as volume, but as production,” Judge said earlier this month when asked if Toney could have an “important role” while. right now. “I would say that a player who hasn’t seen preseason games or a lot of time on the pitch with the guys during the preseason he’s been able to go out there and handle it and to carry out in practice what we have asked him to do. “
Toney took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to explain:
Toney said in his only press conference this regular season that he “fully” believed what Judge had to say, but it didn’t appear that way with his Instagram story on Thursday night. Both sides appear to have issues to work out over the next few days.
